Bobby Rothermel<\/h2>\n

Bobby Rothermel played in the true golden age of baseball. It was a rough and tumble sport at the turn of the century. Although he played only one year in the major leagues, he surely played professional baseball before 1899 and possibly after 1899, however, not on the major league level. This was the first year that the legendary John McGraw managed a major league baseball team. The National League Orioles finished in fourth place with a respectable record of 86-62. The Orioles of the 1890\u2019s were the dominant team of the decade. They played their home games in Union Park in Baltimore. Baltimore had no franchise in 1900 but in 1901 they were admitted to the American League with McGraw as their manager. They were in the AL only two years before the franchise was moved to St Louis (Browns) in 1903. Baltimore did not have a major league team again until 1954 when the St. Louis franchise reverted back to Baltimore. 1957 Fleetwood Tigers<\/h2>\n

On March 29, 1957, the Fleetwood High School basketball team made history. They won the Class C State Championship. Fleetwood has not won another state title in basketball since then. However. the school has enjoyed three state soccer titles and one girls softball title. The above photo show the Tigers celebration in the Albright Field House locker room after they defeated the Williamsburg Blue Pirates 64-63. In their remarkable 7 game run to the state championship, they defeated the defending District 3 Champions (Lykens) and the defending state champions (Jenkintown). They also defeated 4 straight PIAA District Champions, Jenkintown (District 1), Jim Thorpe (District 11), Foster Township (District 2) and Williamsburg (District 6). Henry Williams Jr.<\/h2>\n

Henry Williams, born in Reading 85 years ago, made Fleetwood his home. Mr. Williams lived here for over 50 years. He died on February 8, 2002. He and Betsy King were the greatest golfer\u2019s ever produced in Berks County. His golfing ability put Fleetwood on the national golfing map.<\/p>\n

Mr. Williams Jr. was a longtime professional golfer and retired head professional at Moselem Springs Golf Club. He and his wife Louise lived on Vine Street in Fleetwood. Click to Read More<\/a><\/p>\n
